Chicago artist Heidi Becker is a native of Western Springs and was raised in a creative household. Her grandmother, Joyce Klug, an accomplished artist, demonstrated that being an artist was both possible and desirable.
Although always connected to creativity, Chicago artist Becker did not fully step into her adult art life until the summer of 2017, when both of her children were away at camp for the first time. Having studied painting with a focus on color theory, she began developing what would become her signature style: intuitive mark making combined with bold, expressive color schemes in the tradition of abstract expressionism.
With a leap of faith and an eye toward a new chapter, Becker rented her studio in uptown Western Springs in February 2018. Working creatively each day—teaching art and producing her own—she soon found commercial success. Her artwork now lives in hundreds of homes throughout the Chicago area and beyond. As a recognized Chicago artist, she is also represented in the permanent collections of both Hinsdale and La Grange hospitals, where her work is displayed in the physicians’ lounges.
