Chicago artist Rebecca Marfise is a contemporary painter that lives outside of Chicago, Illinois. She studied Art and Writing at DePauw University and currently works as a high school art teacher in the city of Chicago. While working full time and raising four children, Rebecca gradually began to carve time out to pursue her passion of painting. As her children grew, she was able to dedicate more time to her craft.
An open field, a parcel of woods or a long stretch of beach are the places where Marfise is most inspired in both life and art. Marfise’s goal is not to perfectly replicate a place or moment, but to try and capture the emotion that was created by it. Bright color and expressive lines are one way that she transfers these feelings onto canvas. She captures moments of beauty by using vibrant colors and strong brushstrokes.
