Chicago artist Karyn Denten creates abstract paintings inspired by her years immersed in the creative scene of Southern California and her return to the urban landscape of Chicago. While working as a graphic designer in Newport Beach, Karyn was surrounded by vibrant colors, coastal horizons, and a dynamic community of restaurateurs, coffee shops, and nonprofits—experiences that deeply shaped her artistic voice. In her abstract paintings, Karyn’s marks and brush strokes represent the bold, messy leaps we take toward our aspirations, while the color blocks capture those quiet moments of contentment along the way.
After relocating back to Chicago, Karyn felt a familiar pull toward the horizon during her daily Metra commute, leading to her celebrated Pink Horizons series. After years of agency experience, Karyn left the design world to pursue painting full time. Her mission is to inspire others to chase their own dreams and bring a sense of beauty and optimism into everyday spaces. Learn more about Karyn’s story in her Canvas Rebel Feature.
